Toby Keith is going to be on The Colbert Report tonight. That will maybe be the funniest thing that happens today. Good luck deciding what legitimate band to watch tonight. There are fewer choices the rest of the week. Atmosphere was great when they were here in our studios. You can skip TV on Thursday, but on Friday you’ve got The Airborne Toxic Event, who were great in our studios last week, on Conan, and The Hold Steady, who along with ATE wowed the crowd at the Capitol Hill Block Party this past weekend.

Ahh, the start of summer, re-runs are in the air. This will be a good week to catch up on stuff you have missed lately, there are some gems in here for the week though. Three 6 Mafia might be something worth seeing on Wednesday if you are up for the Late Late Show although the chance to see the “fake band” — and stars of their own reality show — The All For Nots are tempting. Wild Sweet Orange is always a KEXP favorite for Friday on Letterman, and if you missed Wilco on SNL you are in luck this week.

If you look really hard, past all the Warped Tour bands that are in New York, there are actually a few good bands playing on TV this week. Be sure to catch Chromeo on Jimmy Kimmel on Tuesday, The Game on Last Call on Wednesday, try your best to see both of KEXP’s favorites Cloud Cult and My Morning Jacket on Thursday, and if you are up to it catch the Ben Harper rerun on Last Call on Friday. But since it’s a rerun maybe you should watch Alejandro Escovedo on Conan instead.

Well, Conan is feeling Soulful with a capitol “S” this week with James Hunter, Jamie Lidell and Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings all stopping by. Monday night will be hard to juggle with Gnarls Barkley, Aimee Mann, MGMT, James Hunter, Moby, AND a rerun of Death Cab For Cutie’s May 22nd appearance. Look out for Local H on Tueday, can you believe that?! Between them and the 8 year old Wendy Vo, NOT watching Alanis Morissette and Sheryl Crow is all the more easy. Kick off your Friday night with some good hip-hop/R&B from Coolio and Ashanti.

Well, there is no shortage of Jewel this week that’s for sure, and if you like Coldplay, you’re also in luck. Otherwise, be sure to watch N.E.R.D. on Wednesday and Al Green on Thursday. It’s good thing you have that DVR, too, because there’s a lot going on Friday night: Lightspeed Champion, Ed Harcourt, The Heavy, The Ting Tings, and … uh… Jewel and Coldplay!

Happy Memorial Day, everybody! Like most of you, many of your favorite bands are turning the holi-”day” into a holi-”week” and are currently skipping the talk show circuit — all but the hardest working men in show business: Jay-Z and Bon Jovi! Nearly every other performance this week is a repeat, which means that if you missed ‘em before you can now catch The Roots, Grand Archives, My Morning Jacket, and Black Mountain. There’s no excuse to miss them again.

Monday 5/26:

DeVotchKa tonight, Mates of State on Tuesday and Gnarls Barkley make a SNL appearance this week. Don’t forget about The Kooks and Atomsphere on Wednesday (or you can listen to their recent in-studio on KEXP’s Streaming Archive), Death Cab For Cutie on Thursday, and Neil Diamond on Friday!!

Monday 5/19:

This week, I am including the days William Shatner makes a few appearances. I don’t know if he is singing or not, but if he is it’s well worth watching. Also, Duffy will be making a few appearances this week, which should make DJ El Toro happy. The rest of the week is looking good with Death Cab (who’s new album, Narrow Stairs, comes out this Tuesday), The Black Keys, MGMT and Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin all making the talk show rounds. Some notable folks from the old days are getting around this week too. Joe Jackson, Dwight Yoakam and Kathleen Edwards should definitely be good.
