After the live broadcast from Caffe Vita on Friday celebrating Capitol Hill, the winners of our Hood to Hood Challenge last year, KEXP DJs took to the clubs and local bands performed showcases around town. Possibly the only bearded band who respects cleanliness, Seattle blues-alt country rockers The Maldives closed out our day at Caffe Vita on Friday with a truly epic set (not to mention they couldn’t even fit all the members on stage!). With such a big sound, they were an ideal closer for our amazing day to celebrate the Capitol Hill neighborhood’s victory in our Hood to Hood Challenge. Jealous? Maybe next time your neighborhood will win!

When Jacksonville, FL, dance-pop outfit Black Kids rolled into Caffe Vita in Capitol Hill at full membership sporting only a ukulele, a electric toy piano, and a shaker, we were obviously baffled; but even with the stripped down sound, the group’s fun and loud energy carried through (they even got the crowd singing along a couple times!). Be sure to take long looks at these great photos and get ready for our last set of the day here at Caffe Vita: The Maldives at 5:30 PM.

Work is out, school is out, so you have no excuse to not be here (happy hour is not an option)!

Husband-wife indie-pop duo (with daughter in tow!) Mates of State delivered a great, intimate set, stripping it down to drums and keyboards like the Mates of State of old. Look at these photos, love them, but don’t get caught up loving them too much because Black Kids are next at 3:30 PM, live from Caffe Vita. We’re broadcasting until 6:00 PM today so come visit us; we still have more performances on the way!
