• The once elusive Jandek will be returning to the Pacific Northwest in 2010 and he won’t be the biggest name on the marquee. The Portland performance will find Jandek joined by Sonic Youth principle, Thurston Moore. The show is scheduled for April 29th. Maybe we can convince them to trek the three hours north to bless the Emerald City?

• Speaking of Sonic Youth, Lee Ranaldo recently told BBC that the band is already working on the follow-up to this year’s The Eternal. Also in the works is a soundtrack for a French film as well as a DVD release detailing the band’s Daydream Nation tour.

• And speaking of film soundtracks, Grizzly Bear are creating the soundtrack for Blue Valentine, a film slated for preview during January’s Sundance Festival. Movie/music blog The Playlist has more info about the film, said to be “intimate, shattering portrait of a disintegrating marriage.” Fun!

• Say what you want to concerning Dave Matthews, but his ATO Records has a solid roster of mainstream artists and formerly great indie acts (Gomez chief among them). Now word has spread that Drive-By Truckers, one of the best live acts in North America today, has signed with Matthews’ label.

• Thee Silver Mt. Zion have just announced their next album, Kollaps Tradixionales, is slated for a February 16th release via Constellation.

• Onstage in Austin last week, Jay Reatard was attacked by two “fans,” one of which actually struck him, and both of whom were arrested. Brooklyn Vegan has the details. Meanwhile, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs were greeted by a booing crowd on the first night of the 10 Years of ATP celebrations at Somerset. Karen O and the group were apparently 45 minutes late, but made up for it by playing one of their most ferocious sets, according to Spinner.

• Massive Attack has just released a new video for their highly anticipated new album, Heligoland (due February 8th), and it is totally NSFW! The Toby Dye-directed “Paradise Circus” is more documentary than video, featuring featuring clips from the ‘73 porn classic The Devil in Miss Jones and its star, the now 73-year old Georgina Spelvin, who talks candidly about her experience. Sorry, but we’re not to show the X-rated clip, but you can view it at Stereogum, Some Velvet Blog, and whole bunch of other music sites.

• By now, you’ve probably watched the video in which Billy Bob “Don’t Call Me An Actor” Thornton acts out during an interview for Canada’s Q TV. Now, Billboard reports that the Oscar-winning thespian’s band, The Boxmasters, have called off the rest of their Canadian dates for reason they claim is “due to one band member and several of the crew having the flu” and apparently not because they were booed on stage in Toronto for his having called Canadians “mashed potatoes without gravy.”

• It’s a sad day when we must say goodbye to another awesome doom metal band but such is the case for Khanate, who are calling it a day with the release of their final album, Clean Hand Go Foul. The vinyl edition of the album is already available with May 26th marking the official release date for the CD. The first 1000 copies of the compact disc version will include the live DVD End: Capture & Release.

• More release news: the Andrew Whiteman-helmed Apostle of Hustle are readying their third album, Eats Darkness, for a May 19th release.

• If that’s not enough Broken Social Scene goodness for you, perhaps the announcement of the band’s forthcoming book, This Book is Broken, will make you tingle. Now your dreams of reading a BSS biography full of pictures, interviews, and stories concerning will be a reality come May 16th.

• The noise community loses another staple: The U.S.A. is a Monster are calling it a day (again). The duo of Tom Hohmann and Colin Langenus will finish off their unruly creation with a block of European shows before their last performance May 9th in Brooklyn.

• Yeah Yeah Yeahs continue their talk show blitz by following up their performance this past weekend on SNL with appearances on David Letterman and Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively. It may not be a massively long list of new releases gathered up by Largehearted Boy this week, but it’s an undeniably good one. Your days of anxious anticipation are over now that Peter Bjorn and John, PJ Harvey and John Parish, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Gomez are finally in stores. KEXP listeners will also want to grab the latest from Adam Franklin (of Swervedriver), Malajube, Aceyalone, and the danceworthy releases from Thunderheist and The Whitest Boy Alive. Veterans Stevie Nicks and Leonard Cohen are both revived with live CD and DVD performances. After hearing how great LC still sounds, you’ll want to waltz yourself to the end of the checkout line today!

• Chicago-based music journalist and Wilco-head Greg Kot, broke the story Friday afternoon that Jane’s Addiction, Depeche Mode, and The Beastie Boys would be headlining the 2009 edition of Lollapalooza, set for August 7-9 in Chicago’s Grant Park. The bands and event representatives have yet to confirm or deny the story, so likely they’re just upset that Kot broke the news before April 21.

• You can cross another ‘What If’ off your odd musical pairing list: Former bespectacled Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker is teaming up with Shellac brainiac and producer-of-all-styles Steve Albini for Further Complications. Due May 19th via Rough Trade, the new Cocker material receives the cheap but effective touch behind the boards that only Albini can provide.

• His name may not be John Lee Pettimore, but Steve Earle ain’t a stranger to deliverin’ a mess of tribute material to Knoxville and the rest of the world. Townes, due May 12, is a self-explanatory — unless papa Steve is impressed with his son’s (Justin Townes Earle) first two albums.

• Dig out your yellow jump suits and red flower pot hats, Devo returns! The futuristic ones will be performing Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo! in its entirety during the Fan’s Strike Back portion of All Tomorrow’s Parties: Don’t Look Back. The show takes place in London May 6, so schedule your rainy vacation now!

• Trent Reznor just posted this video of Nine Inch Nails joined by The Dillinger Escape Plan — a “poor man’s Coldplay” — for their performance of “Wish,” live at the Soundwave Festival in Perth, Australia, on March 2nd, 2008:
  

• Due to excessive leaking, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs have pushed up the release date of new album, It’s Blitz, from April 14 to this Tuesday (March 10) in digital and March 31 in all CD and LP. Is no one capable of waiting and being surprised? Spoil sports.

• Filmmaker Jim Jarmusch is getting the soundtrack for his latest film, The Limits of Control, from the world’s best doom and drone acts the world has to offer: Boris, Sunn O))), and Seattle born and bred Earth (what a show recently). The film is due in limited release May 22 but no date has been announced for a soundtrack release.

• It’s hard to fill the void left by U2’s 5-night stint on Letterman last week. In fact, there’s a bit of a lull all around the talk show circuit this week, but you’ll find a few KEXP favorites or other interesting musical acts if you look hard enough:
