Six Degrees of Robyn Hitchcock Day

Friday, April 15th

6:00 AM to 6:00 PM PST

[ “RSVP” on Facebook for a reminder to tune in! ]

From 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM PT, John Richards, Cheryl Waters, and Kevin Cole will program a day of music to celebrate the way our DJ’s connect artists every day. At 6:00 AM PT, John will start his show with a song by Hitchcock and one of his many projects, and each song played thereafter will somehow link to the song played before it.

Connections can include anything from guest vocals, shared musicians, same producers, and more. None of these connections have been pre-planned, and our DJs will be thinking on their feet to come up with the next song, as they do daily on KEXP. Listeners are strongly encouraged to play along by sending their musical suggestions via e-mail to, or on Twitter (@KEXP).

With a career spanning over 40 years, Hitchcock was an obvious choice for Six Degrees Day. From UK neo-psych band The Soft Boys in the late ’70s, to an active solo career in the ’80s as Robyn Hitchcock & The Egyptians, to his recent work with The Venus 3 — Hitchcock’s rich discography should prove fertile ground for a day of programming. His 1999 single “Viva! Sea-Tac” was the very first song broadcasted from KEXP’s New Home on December 9, 2015.

The Six Degrees series began in 2013 with Sharon Van Etten, followed by Greg Dulli in 2015.
