  • Farewell, Kevin Ayers. The co-founder of the pastoral prog-rock group The Soft Machine in the late 60s and celebrated solo artist died two days ago in his sleep. Ayers had came out of a 15-year reclusive existence in France in 2007 to release The Unfairground, on which he collaborated with members of Neutral Milk Hotel, teenage Fanclub, and Ladybug Transistor. Ayers was a great, pioneering musician who will surely be missed. Below is a nice clip from 1970 of The Soft Machine. [Stereogum]

  • Diplo, Skrillex, and A-Trak have come together to create a new YouTube channel called Potato which has premiered a new video for Diplo's "Butter's Theme" from Express Yourself. Reuben Dangoor directs this swirling, psychedelic array of twerking girls in ski masks and bandanas set in an electro-fuzz Diplo wonderland. [Stereogum]

  • NYC dream-pop group DIIV have released a video for "Wait" that is touching, beautiful, and very NSFW. The video is directed by Sandy Kim (who is dating drummer Colby Hewitt) and stars, among many other beautiful women, Sky Ferreira (who is dating singer/guitarist Zachary Cole Smith). The video is a super-8 shot summer dream world of rainbows, naked women, great music, backyards, and gardens. Summer seems so far away... [SPIN]

  • Synth pop duo The Big Pink is now just the solo project of Robbie Furze. Milo Cordell has left to focus his attention on his NYC Merzok label, which recently has put out efforts by Titus Andronicus, The Klaxons, and Crystal Castles. In a blog post Furze says: Milo has moved to NYC to run his label, Merok and is no longer an active member in the big pink. I am in the studio at the moment and well into the 3rd big pink record. I have been working with a variety of different people, including supreme cuts, the drum, van rivers (fever ray) and andrew wyatt. Me and vicky have recently returned to Electric lady studio in New York, where we recorded " a brief history of love" to record and co produce new 3 tracks with john o'mahoney. We are supporting BRMC at the end of march in UK. To road test some new material and blast out some old. Robbie x. So at least the third record is still under way! Check out this quick clip from the sessions for the new album for a taste of what's to come. [SPIN]
