Bassist Kim Deal has left the Pixies, the band announced today on their Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/pixiesofficial?rf=106226122747445) page. “We are very proud to have worked with her on and off over the last 25 years,” the statement read. “Despite her decision to move on, we will always consider her a member of the Pixies, and her place will always be here for her. We wish her all the best.” The note was signed by Black Francis, Joey Santiago and David Lovering. No reason was given for the move, though Kim’s other band, The Breeders, has maintained a priority in Deal’s working life.

Irish band Chvrches released a new video for their song “Gun,” the synth-driven first single from their anticipated album The Bones Of What You Believe (out this fall). The video is reminiscent of the White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army” only with a bubble-gum feel, complete with screen splits, super-imposed visual affects and continuous action [Stereogum].

Last night, The Weeknd debuted the song “Kiss Land,” the title track from the band’s upcoming album. In frontman Abel Tesfaye’s hometown of Toronto, the group debuted a couple new tracks, including one that “may or may not be called ‘You Belong To The World’.” The song is a pulsing anthem, and you can watch a fan-made video of the performance here [Stereogum].

On July 2, remixed versions of Death Cab for Cutie’s songs “Soul Meets Body” and “Champagne From a Paper Cup” will be released. It’s clear Ben Gibbard, Death Cab’s lead singer, is comfortable with electronic production given his success with The Postal Service, and in July more examples of this will be shown off. Gibbard has redone his tunes, collaborating with the Electronic Anthology Project’s Brett Nelson (also of Built to Spill). The two songs will be pressed to 7” vinyl following the digital release. M.I.A., well, hasn’t been around much publicly. But on Monday, BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe will be debuting a new track from the artist on his show (airing between 7 and 9 p.m. London time) called “Bring the Noize”. Yesterday, M.I.A.’s Twitter feed read “M.I.A./BRING THE NOIZE”, confirming the buzz [GlobalGrind].

Toro Y Moi remixed the Billie Holiday song “My Man”, turning the classic into a modern, clubby, sampled version of itself. The 4-minute track, intended for a new remix collaboration featuring versions of well-known soul songs, is titled Verve Remixed: The First Ladies, and is slated to be released July 16^th. [Gigwise]. Mumford & Sons canceled their Bonnaroo performance due to bassist Ted Dwane’s recovery from brain surgery. The procedure, which removed a blood clot from the surface of his brain, has caused the band to cancel several tour dates. In their stead, acoustic-surf-guitar player Jack Jason will perform. Johnson was already slated to be at the festival, sitting in with ALO, but has been asked to perform in Saturday’s headline slot for the English rockers.
