Berlin-trio Moderat, featuring the combined forces of the German electronic projects Apparat and Modeselektor, stopped by KEXP's studio to showcase a few of their new bangers from their 2016 release, III. The "bored-with-current electronic-music-back-in-the-day" musicians put out a quick caveat that they were playing a more improvised set, which actually made for a more captivating experience - because who doesn't like a custom-made serenade? Right out of the gate, the DJs opened with the electropop slow jam "Ghostmother" that was anchored by a syncopated R&B beat, sugary vocals, rippling synthesized snare pops, and splashes of modularized vocal patches. After the more pace-stimulating polyrhythmic house track "Reminder", Sascha Ring (Apparat) shed some light on the collaboration's creative struggles in the beginning, while Gernot Bronsert (Modeselktor) also chimed in on the birth of Moderat rising out of the techno basement movement in the 90s. Check out their full in-studio videos below, which includes their fun interview with DJ Michelle Myers, plus two more of their mellifluous tracks - "Intruder" from III and "Bad Kingdom" from their 2013 album, II
