Today’s song, featured on The Midday Show with Cheryl Waters, is “Orbit” by Shenandoah Davis from her album Souvenirs, available now via Plume Records.

Shenandoah Davis – Orbit (MP3)

Seattle singer/songwriter Shenandoah Davis approached the recording of her third LP, Souvenirs, in precisely the same way she's always crafted her lush, twinkling chamber-pop: effortlessly and with a head full of dreams. Modestly recorded in producer Sam Miller's Brooklyn apartment, Souvenirs documents the break-up of a relationship with charm and humor, Davis ceremoniously picking apart the threads that weave two people together.

“Orbit,” with its verdant instrumentation and honeyed, intimate vocals, flips the break-up song narrative on its head, Davis instead delighting in the end of her romance. “I’m thrilled/out of your orbit,” she sings, “I’m done/I can’t afford it/Nothing to gain from wearing your name.” And in her trademark style, she manages to make this unshackling sound as uplifting as the start of a promising new courtship.

Below, watch a video for "Supernatural Powers," another track off Souvenirs. Follow Davis on Facebook for future show dates.
