  • Prolific Garage-rock force Ty Segall gave an interview with Stereogum that offered some interesting new tidbits of information about the musician. For one, he no longer lives in San Francisco. Secondly, he's not a huge fan of smoking weed. But most interestingly, he's very interested in making a hip-hop album and wants legendary producer and rapper Madlib to help him with it, saying: "I really wanna make hip-hop music, but I don’t know how to use any of the tools. Electronic, computer skills, I don’t have those for engineering or making beats. I don’t know how to use a sampler well, I don’t know how to use any of these things. So if Madlib happens to read this, hit me up, dude." Segall is releasing his latest album Freedom's Goblin January 26 via Drag City. [ Stereogum ]
  • Chicago rapper Vic Mensa has shared a new video for the song "We Could Be Free" from his debut studio album The Autobiography, released last year. The timely intense video features a police officer punching a pregnant woman and is a tribute to MLK's hope for a more peaceful tomorrow. Over the weekend Mensa penned an op-ed about the oppression and abuse in Palestine, which followed a lyric video for "We Could Be Free" that is made up of footage of police brutality in Palestine. The full video is only available through Apple Music but Mensa has offered a preview of the video on Twitter. [ SPIN ]
  • You may only think of Merriweather Post Pavilion as the title of Animal Collective's beloved album, but it's actually the name of an outdoor venue in Columbia, Maryland. The venue has been working on a nearly-completed five-year renovation that has been stalled momentarily due to the fact that the roof collapsed late Saturday night. In a statement made by the venue, the roof “was being hydraulically lifted 20 feet over a period of months. The roof was in its near-final position and the next anticipated step was to secure it permanently.” Thankfully, no one was injured and the the venue claims that the 2018 season will go on as planned.
