The Decemberists have announced a new album to be released this March entitled I'll Be Your Girl. The album is said to be a departure from their signature indie folk and takes on a synth pop, glam sound courtesy of super-producer John Congleton, who the band is working with for the first time. In advance of the release, they've shared the new single "Severed". The band will also release a "behemoth of a deluxe edition of this record, a mystery box we’re calling I’LL BE YOUR GIRL: THE EXPLODED EDITION," according to the band. A tour is planned as well, with a date in Seattle on Thursday, June 21 at the Paramount. I'll Be Your Girl is out March 16 via Capitol Records. [ BrooklynVegan ]

Yesterday, Eels teased something new on the horizon that seemed like it may be a new album called The Deconstruction. Today, we now know that to be certain and we've also received the album's lead single and title track. Mark Oliver Everett performed the album with frequent collaborators Koool G Murder and P-Boo, alongside The Deconstruction Orchestra and Choir, and was produced mostly by Everett, with some songs produced by Mickey Petralia. The Deconstruction is out April 6 via E Works/PIAS and follows up 2014's The Cautionary Tales of Mark Oliver Everett. [ Paste ]

Kevin Barnes announced today that a new of Montreal album is on the horizon. Called White Is Relic/Irrealis Mood, the album was inspired by '80s extended dance remixes, demonstrated by the lead single "Paranoiac Intervals/Body Dysmorphia." Barnes wrote a lengthy statement about his inspirations behind the new album, citing two important events that occurred during the making of the album: "I became 'Simulated Reality' paranoid and I fell in LOVE." It's an interesting read and a nice peek into Barnes' brain. White Is Relic/Irrealis Mood is out March 9 on Polyvinyl. [ Stereogum ]

Scottish art-rap trio Young Fathers have announced they'll be releasing their third album Cocoa Sugar this March. They've also shared the single "In My View", accompanied by a video directed by Jack Whiteley. The emotionally gripping and yet very danceable track follows the gospel ballad "LORD" released back in the fall. Cocoa Sugar will be out March 9 through Ninja Tune. It follows 2014's Mercury Prize-winning DEAD and 2015's White Men Are Black Men Too. [ NME ]

George Clinton's legendary funk band Parliament have been revived with the first new song from the outfit in 38 years called "I'm Gon Make U Sick O' Me" featuring Scarface. The last album from the group came in 1980 with Trombipulation. The track comes from Parliament's forthcoming album Medicaid Fraud Dog. For the new album Clinton plays a character named Dr. Feel Good whose prescription for what ails you is "more funk for your ass" (seems legit). Clinton announced the album in a Reddit AMA, in which he also shared current artists that inspire him, his drug of choice, and a number of very entertaining stories including one about seeing a U.F.O. with Bootsy Collins. Definitely worth reading here. A release date for Medicaid Fraud Dog has not yet been released. [ Rolling Stone ]

Phil Elverum is quickly following up last year's heart-wrenching and fantastic Mount Eerie album, A Crow Looked At Me, with a new album slated for release this March. Called Now Only, the album "is a continuation and deepening of the themes presented on that album. Elverum further explores that style of direct, unadorned lyrical writing, with further ruminations on Castrée's [Elverum's deceased wife] death and their life together, the effects of the sudden success of these intimate songs, and the concept of remembrance." He's shared the first single off the album, an 11-minute track called "Distortion." Now Only is out March 16 via Elverum's label P.W. Elverum & Sun. [ Under the Radar ]
