  • Canadian electric duo Purity Ring have taken on the challenge of remixing Lady Gaga’s underwhelming single “Applause.” Their version’s pounding chorus is sure to take dance clubs by storm, which is Gaga’s perfect niche. This remix really deserves the applause. [SPIN]

  • Last year, Midlake split from their frontman Tim Smith, but that hasn’t slowed them down. Guitarist Eric Pulido stepped up and now the Texas band is gearing up for the release of their first post-Smith album, Antiphon (out November 5). Today they released the stellar album track “Provider.” [Stereogum]

  • It’s only been a week since Holy Ghost! released their sophomore album, Dynamics and they’re already spoiling fans with a brand new video. The visuals for the 80’s nostalgic ballad “Okay” are a very laid-back and simplistic. The message they’re trying to send is a bit fuzzy (literally).[Stereogum]

  • The Roots’ Questlove and “Captain” Kirk Douglas appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon this week to reprise their role as Black Simon and Garfunkle. The duo performed an incredibly hilarious rendition of Katy Perry’s mega-hit “Roar.” Watch below. [CoS]

  • Avant-garde band Xiu Xiu have been working on a cover album that will pay tribute to the late blues icon Nina Simone. Nina, an 11-song collection, will drop on December 2 via Graveface Records. Take a listen to the album’s opening cover, “Don’t Smoke In Bed.” [Pitchfork]
