KEXP at CMJ 2013, Day 1: Weekend

all photos by Benjamin Mobley (view set)

Brooklyn-based (formerly San Francisco) shoegaze band Weekend came into the picture at the turn of the decade with Sports, a strong introductory statement that could have seen the band go in plenty of different directions in the future. But in the form of Jinx, their sophomore step mixes dense texturing and noisy guitars with a strong post-punk songwriting style that gives a wonderful totality of the darker side of the 80s. Weekend have spent the time since their record release touring and backing up the record’s solid reviews with a live show to boot. Today, Weekend brought their brilliant new tunes to Judson Memorial Church for our CMJ broadcast.
