Out This Week 3/4

One of the most exciting releases this week comes from Brooklyn-via-Jersey band Real Estate. KEXP’s Music Director Don Yates describes their third album, Atlas, as “another masterful set of dreamy, surf-inflected indie-pop, featuring a more pristine sound this time around for their warm blend of jangly, reverbed guitars, gentle rhythms, yearning vocals and wistful melodies.” They’ll be bringing those beautiful new songs to the KEXP studios this Thursday, March 6th at 1:00 PM PST, and you can stream video of their performance as it happens here.

Other highlights include the latest from veteran rockers Drive-By Truckers, whose twelfth album, English Oceans, Yates calls “a bit more of a stripped-down sound on a typically strong set of roots-tinged rock ranging from Stonesish rockers and moody story songs to reflective ballads steeped in country, folk and soul.” Brooklyn band The Men continue to evolve on their fifth album, Tomorrow’s Hits, which pairs “a cleaner and warmer sound with impeccably crafted songwriting on songs ranging from jangly ‘70s-influenced rockers and relaxed country-rock to horn-filled chuggers and blistering motorik jams.”

Plus, keep your eyes out for psych-folk artist Linda Perhacs, whose Asthmatic Kitty release is her first new album in 44 years! The latest release from Eternal Summers gets some help from Guided By Voices/Nada Surf guitarist Doug Gillard. Speaking of special guests, the new Current 93 album features Nick Cave and Antony Hegarty. UK band The Woodentops have reunited for the release, Granular Tales. Moby shares the CD/DVD set Almost Home: Live at the Fonda, LA, and Rufus Wainwright includes a new track (which you can stream below) on his greatest hits collection, Vibrate: The Best of Rufus Wainwright.
