  • Over the weekend we got the unfortunate news that Greg Allman of The Allman Brothers Band died at 69. A number of artists have been paying their respects via covers of Allman Brothers Band tracks and Scottish band the Afghan Whigs did just that on Sunday night at a show in Dublin, with the track "Melissa." The 1972 track was the second single off of Eat a Peach and one of the band's most popular. Allman has struggled with health issues over the years, he was diagnosed with hepatitis C in 1999 and underwent a liver transplant in 2010. The Afghan Whigs will be in Seattle on Wednesday, October 18th playing the Showbox with Har Mar Superstar.  [ Spin ]

  • Last Friday LCD Soundsystem played an amazing set of hits at Sasquatch! Music Festival and also announced that their new album was finished but we now have word that it could be out in as little as six weeks in a post made on Facebook. In the post James Murphy says, "i've been wrangling the fastest route between final mix and record release for the past few weeks so that there isn't such a lag, and i think it'll be soon. 6 weeks is the very fastest, i think, but it will likely be longer than that. just trying to get all the ducks in a row so that there's someone with a catcher's mitt waiting at each stage. we mixed the last song last wednesday, and korey ran to (a national overnight carrier) to get it to bob weston over at Chicago Mastering Service for the next morning. then we took off to play sasquatch in washington, and now i'm home proofreading lyrics and credits and all that crap. sorry it took so long, honestly. i didn't think it would, but i, once again, underestimated the distractions inherent in touring and living a 'life.'" • The Drums have a brand new single off their upcoming album Abysmal Thoughts, which will be released June 16th on ANTI-. Frontman Jonny Pierce said of the track, which deals with childhood trauma, "“I grew up in a poor and dirty town called Horseheads, NY. I am the son of two Pentecostal preachers who have always been outspokenly anti-gay and this made for a childhood that was riddled with self-doubt, confusion and a lot of self-hate. I remember being anxious all the time and turning to music as an escape. Music brought me to New York City, where I live now as an adult. But I am coming to find out that being an adult doesn’t mean much at all. We are all just kids in bigger, older bodies. We all still know very little about the world and even less about ourselves. I find that the past still dominates a lot of my daily experiences – sometimes to the point of feeling paralyzed. The goal is to heal, and I think I am – but at a much slower pace than I am comfortable with.” The Drums will be Neumos on Monday, July 17th. [ Consequence of Sound ]

  • You might think with the revival of Twin Peaks that David Lynch is a bit too busy for anything else but you would be wrong. Lynch has announced a return of his Festival of Disruption in Los Angeles for a second year. This year's musicians are Bon Iver, Sharon Von Etten, The Kills, TV On The Radio, Laura Marling, and Reggie Watts, with DJ sets by Moby and Shepard Fairey. There will also be talks conducted by Kristine McKenna with the Bill Pullman (who starred in Lynch's Lost Highway), Sheryl Lee (Twin Peaks' Laura Palmer), Pete Holmes, Ed Ruscha, and various Twin Peaks collaborators. There will be film screenings of Lost Highway and rare Lynch short films. The proceeds of the festival will go to the David Lynch Foundation, which specializes in healing traumatic stress and raising performance in at-risk populations. [ Under the Radar ]

  • Fleet Foxes had the supreme honor this weekend of playing four nights at the Sydney Opera House in Sydney, Australia and on their last night (earlier today, approximately 2:45 am PST) they live streamed the entirety of their set on Facebook. Watch the full show on Facebook in preparation for their two-night stint at the Paramount on Thursday, September 14th, and Friday, September 15th. [ Pitchfork ]
