Monday Music News

  • Catch up on new music this holiday weekend: NPR Music is currently streaming the forthcoming debut from The Walkmen frontman Hamilton Leithauser, which hits stores on June 3rd. Titled Black Hours, this solo release features contributions from fellow Walkman Paul Maroon, as well as Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij, Dirty Projectors’ Amber Coffman, The Shins’ Richard Swift, and Morgen Henderson from Fleet Foxes. And don’t miss Leithauser LIVE on KEXP on Friday, June 6th from The Cutting Room Studios in New York City. [NPR.org]
  • You can also stream the upcoming release from Brooklyn band Parquet Courts, which is my personal winner for Album Title of the Year. (Its title, Sunbathing Animal, refers to this cat!) Their sophomore release hits stores June 3rd via What’s Your Rupture?/Mom+Pop. [Consequence of Sound]

  • Since you’re probably not at work, why not check out this NSFW new video from Mac DeMarco for the track “Passing Out Pieces”? He’s one of many excellent musical guests appearing at Bumbershoot this year. [Under the Radar]

  • On the other side of the video spectrum, Conor Oberst made an appearance on CBS This Morning that couldn’t be more safe for work. Watch him perform the track “Hundreds of Ways” below. [Spin]

  • And finally, check out the point-and-click video game No Wave, a tribute to that underground music movement of the late 1970s-mid-1980s, which included such artists as Sonic Youth, Swans, Foetus, and more. You control the character “Jim,” a Brooklynite trying to get through a no wave show without getting a bottle cracked over his head. Good luck! [Pitchfork]
